The Detroit Red Wings and forward Justin Abdelkader are excited to announce the third year of Red Wings for Reading presented by Michigan Education Savings Program (MESP) for the 2015-16 season to encourage Michigan elementary students to read outside of the classroom.  If Haigh students read the books and mail in a contest form to the Red Wings, they will receive materials from the Red Wings.  They might win free tickets for a hockey game. All kindergarten through fifth grade students attending a Michigan elementary school are encouraged to enter this fun contest by reading three popular children’s books for their age group listed below, as selected by Justin Abdelkader, or by having someone read those three books to them:

Kindergarten – 2nd Grade Books:

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs by Judi Barrett
Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak3rd – 5th Grade Books:

Every qualified student whose guardian submits an entry form will receive an exclusive Red Wings’ reading fan pack and be entered to win a pair of Red Wings tickets to a home game during the 2015-16 regular season courtesy of forward Justin Abdelkader! Students who win the chance to attend a Red Wings game as Abby’s All Stars will also receive a goody bag with an autographed Justin Abdelkader 8×10 photo and two meal vouchers good for a small pop and a slice of pizza or hot dog.  The school with the most entries between August 31, 2015, and March 1, 2016, will get the unique opportunity for Justin Abdelkader to read to a class! If the winning school is within 30 minutes of Joe Louis Arena, Justin Abdelkader will read a book to a classroom at the school.
