Our Mission

The mission of Haigh Elementary is to provide opportunities and experiences through a comprehensive curriculum for all learners to develop academically, physically, emotionally and socially in a technological world.  (Our daily use of technology is exceptional, and we are working to accelerate learning by using more and more technology.  All of our students complete work in our brand new computer lab.)  Our students will be career and college ready.  We partner with families and the community to provide a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment in which each student is educated to high academic standards to realize his or her potential.

Our Vision

We see a safe school community that shares the responsibility of educating each student while building on individual strengths to promote critical thinking and cooperation in a safe and respectful environment.  Working with all parents–and our dynamic P.T.A.–we are working to become one of the very best elementary schools in all of Michigan.

Haigh Elementary strives for Excellence

.“Despite the many state and federal requirements, funding issues, and many other obstacles facing the staff in our schools they have continued to work diligently to bring about student success and I want to thank them for their efforts and acknowledge their hard work and dedication to the students in our classrooms,” commented Dearborn Public Schools Superintendent Mr. Brian Whiston.  Haigh Elementary School teachers work hard to make a difference in the lives of their students, all of their students.  The school even offers a program called Ignite, a program that gives children the opportunity to learn and grow beyond the conventional classroom.  We want our students to excel. Our History.
“The history of Haigh Elementary School began in 1949 when the Dearborn Public Schools chose to honor Henry A. Haigh, one of the founders of Dearborn, with a school in his honor.  (Our city has a long history.  Long before Henry Ford made our city a world-famous city, a group of distinguished men and women set out to make Dearborn one of the best cities in Michigan.  The Haigh family represented one part of this group, and their home, the classical Haigh House was built by Col. Joshua Howard in 1834.  The Mr. Richard Haigh purchased the home around 1950.)  If it were not for the pen and the speeches of Henry Haigh, much of the history of Dearborn would have been lost.  As a farmer, a lawyer, and a financier, he knew that the city would become a great city, an Historic city.  In many ways, he invested in the city and strove to serve the city.  This school, Haigh Elementary School, was dedicated in 1949, seven years after his passing. The school was designed by the noted architect Eberle M. Smith.  The school officially opened in September of 1949, with a teaching staff of 4 and an enrollment of 98 students.  In 1993, the school was re-designed by the architectural firm Nordstrom Samson Associates.  Soon thereafter, the school was fully renovated.  Since then, the school has been updated in many ways.  The school has a new state-of-the-art computer lab, and every classroom has a lot of technology in it.  Although part of the school was originally built in 1949, the school has been well cared for.  It is an historic school filled with highly qualified teachers who care a great deal about their Haigh Elementary School students.  Our principal, Mrs. Donna Jakubik, is so proud of her school, here staff, and her students.
